What I can do for you…
I’m Gill Wenlock and I am pleased that you have taken time to look through this information. Perhaps you are looking for information on counselling, or seeking support for a particular problem.
Counselling for Adults, Adolescents and Children
I will support you as you explore what is upsetting you, identify the choices available to you to make changes, resolve a difficulty or come to term with the past experience.
Sensitive and confidential help is required for a wide range of adolescent issues including: trauma and abuse, substance abuse, domestic violence, family problems, and problems with weight.
Depression, Stress and Anxiety
Depression is a potentially serious condition that can take all of the joy out of daily life. Anxiety can be a symptom of depression but can also exist in its own right it can appear and interrupt daily lives in the form of apprehension, lack of confidence, panic attacks and some phobias. The symptoms of stress are – disturbed sleep, irritability, tiredness, headaches and low moods.
Bereavement, Loss and Redundancies
Few of us go through life without experiencing a loss important in our lives. It can trigger strong emotions that we may not have experienced before. With a loss we experience many different effects, which could include shock, disbelief, numbness longing, apathy, sadness, anger and depression before reaching hope and acceptance.
Trauma, Abuse and Phobias
Unwanted Abuse in any form can have a deeply disturbing effect on emotional happiness whether experienced in childhood or later in life. Traumatic events can cause depression, nightmares, panic attacks and self-harm
Food Addiction and Eating Disorders
Both of these disorders can seriously damage you health. Eating Disorder patterns can stem from emotional turmoil, a need to forget feelings, a need to block out pain and anger and most of all , a need to cope.
Self Injury
Self-Injury is the act of inflicting physical harm serious enough to cause damage to your body. This self-injury is often repetitive and people who do it learn that hurting themselves in this way brings a form of relief from distress.
Drug, Solvent and Alcohol Abuse
An addiction, whether to drug, solvent or alcohol, can be a frightening, confusing and humiliating experience for both the suffer and their families.
Domestic Violence
Victims of domestic violence are at the receiving end of those who use abuse, coercion, threats and physical violence as weapons in their pursuits of power and control.
Anger Management and Self-Esteem
The first step towards managing anger is an understanding of its roots. As a Counsellor I can assist in alleviating conflict and help those experiencing it to understand their emotions and responses. How they cam manage their own anger and learn coping mechanisms necessary to recognise and manage their feelings. Being capable of being in charge of their own responses can result in increased self-esteem, which, in turn, will enable and equip them with the confidence necessary to become effective communicators.
Problems with Relationships
Relationships are characterized by clear ‘boundaries’ or ‘rules of interaction’ There are multiple issues that affect relationships, from death and bereavement, caring for the elderly and those with illness, to violence and dealing teenage problems.
